most exciting acts in Belgium’s rich and diverse music scene. Frontwoman Brenda Corijn, drawing on her Mozambican-Portuguese roots, sings in both Portuguese and English. Beaks (AT) Indie Rock, Alternative
Beaks is the music project by Anna Francesca, who has been writing for years but only recently found a way of sharing her text through songs. Coming from poetry, she plays words like an instrument, embedded into a sound that’s minimalistic and effortless. Her lyrics are introspective snapshots of life – perhaps even dream sequences – reflecting the essence of the human condition. Oscillating between reality and a dizzy daydream, Beaks is sleepwalking with open eyes. This becomes evident in her single „Dirty Girls,“ that ends with the words: „How do dreams work? Will I wake up if I die?“

Showtime: Fri 16 JAN - Werkman College - 22:10-22::50
Benni (BE) Indie Folk
With her crystalline voice, innate sense of melody and intimate, powerful lyrics, Benni enchants wherever she goes. Following in the footsteps of Damien Rice, Daughter or Phoebe Bridgers, and with 400k streams in a couple of months, the Belgian singer-songwriter quickly made a name for herself. Her magnetic presence led her to open for artists such as Solann, Cœur de Pirate or November Ultra; to step onto the stages of Le Cirque Royal, Le Botanique, a soldout Ancienne Belgique, and to feature in showcases festivals like Fifty Lab, We Are Open, MaMA, and Bars en Trans earlier this year.

Musically the influence of Jelle Denturck’s record collection is inevitable, and Dressed Like Boys’ sound mainly echoes that of the 70s. Denturck takes it into the 21st century with tape recorders, strings, Wurlitzers, Rhodes, biscuit tin like drum sounds and a (grand) piano. Listen to debut single ‘Nando’ and hear how the combined forces of Tobias Jesso Jr., Billy Joel and Elton John would sound like.

Filiah (AT) Indie Pop
Filiah writes the kind of songs that feel as if someone just turned on a bedside lamp in a dark room, illuminating things you didn’t know you needed to feel. Her songs are deeply personal, yet carry a quiet sense of familiarity, like talking to a good, old friend where shame is never part of the conversation. “I want my songs to feel like a little home,” she says. “A place where you can feel safe, understood, and cared for, even just for a moment.”

Formed by members of Marathon, Jagd, and Banji, the five-piece weave shoegaze, indie, and a hint of emo into an atmospheric sound that recalls My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins, and Slow Pulp, while remaining distinctly their own. Their shows move seamlessly from hushed intimacy to explosive climaxes, layering fuzz-drenched guitars, dreamy vocals, and deeply personal lyrics. Since forming, they’ve supported Goat Girl, The Buoys, Hotline TNT, and Girl in Red, and toured the UK twice, including dates with Blood Wizard.

Lézard (BE) Disco Vogue-Punk
Lézard are a band from Belgium, and in retrospect, that kind of checks out. A country fractured down the middle between Flemish and French-speaking population, confusion ought to be a default state of mind. Their high-wired concoction of post-punk, disco, glam rock, new wave and electro-clash treads that fine line between comedy and tragedy – songs that unravel as both the theatrical release and the cacophony behind the scenes.

LuxJury (AT) Alternative, Art Pop, Indie
With George Michael, Angel Olsen and the soundtrack to Vampyros Lesbos as formative influences, LuxJury fuse elements of pop and rock with soul–baring, self-effacing lyricism to create their sound. In 2024, the Austrian artist sent a self-released EP, expecting it to be tossed aside, and prepared herself for stopping writing music altogether. But the support of Bella Union has seen that EP morph into an album. Lux, who was basically rebelling against the radio pop of mainland Europe, has, ironically been led back to really appreciating some of that songwriting and guitar tone in her latest works.
Looking for: Booking and Live Opportunities: Benelux, Spain, USA

Sodl (BE) Indie Rock, Freak Folk
Anyone who mistakes Sodl’s forest-fairy aesthetic for a dreamy folk act will be in for a rude awakening with hits like I am a Woman and Mary, The Anarchist. This year’s winner of the Austrian Amadeus Music Award in the FM4 category doesn’t shy away from harsh contrasts — she celebrates them, with Heavy Distortion and flowers in her Rapunzel hair. With Sheepman (2025), the 21-year-old unveils her self-produced debut album — a tightrope walk between fairytale escapism and feminist outcry. Amid mystical beings, devotion, and female desire, she sings about structural oppression and the struggle for space and visibility as a woman. Musically, the songwriter from Austria’s Salzkammergut region wraps her poetic lyrics in the raw sound of the 1990s.

Showtime: Fri 16 JAN - Huize Maas FRONT - 19:30-20:10
Sofie Royer (AT) Alternative, Pop
Sofie Royer is a Californian born, Austrian-Iranian multi instrumentalist and producer. She was classically trained in composition and concert violin at the Conservatory of Vienna, and has played both violin and viola professionally in the Vienna Young Philharmonic and the Vienna Academic Philharmonic. Her latest record, Young-Girl Forever, released in November 2024 on Stones Throw Records, has been lauded by The Guardian: “her new wave style hits harder than ever on an excellent album, making Royer one of Europe’s most perplexingly overlooked pop stars, with appealing vocals and old-money glamour”. Most recently, she has garnered nominations for Best Pop Album at the Libera Awards in NYC in June, as well as being nominated for Best Production and Best Pop/Rock Artist at the Austrian Amadeus Music Awards.

His sound blends acoustic and electronic elements into something both grounded and unpredictable. Live shows and DJ sets. Yong Yello (BE) Hip Hop, Rap, Soul
Four years after his acclaimed debut, Yong Yello returns with Bennie & De Banaliteit Van Ons Bestaan — a raw and unflinching concept album about identity, escapism and the quiet despair of modern life. While Marcel launched Yello into the spotlight with festival highlights (Rock Werchter, Pukkelpop, etc.) and hits, success came with a heavy toll. Behind the scenes, he spiraled into depression, battling old habits and losing himself in the noise. Musically, the album is more eclectic than ever: soul, funk, hip hop, French soundtracks — even Latin touches. And where his debut ended in darkness, Bennie offers a glimmer of hope. The closer, ‘Zoeke Naar Wa Liefde’, finds comfort in connection, not achievement.
